Here are websites about current events, news, and social issues, (especially on death penalty, tobacco use, and drug abuse). They have been collected from book review journals, print resources, librarian/teacher recommendations, and other resources.

listing of background information on current issues such as abortion, clean air, death penalty, etc.
- Facts for Families Developed by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, here are over 80 fact sheets on issues affecting children and adolescents.
- Gallup Organization Here you can get poll information on a variety of social and political topics. NOTE: You will have to set up a free account to access some materials.
- PollingReport.com According to the main page of the site, it is "An independent, nonpartisan resource on trends in American public opinion."

- NIDA for Teens: The Science behind Drug Abuse From the National Institute on Drug Abuse, get the facts on how drugs affect the body, read real life stories, and quiz yourself about what you already know about drugs and drug abuse.
- Partnership to a Drugfree America There are some great resources for parents & teachers. Students can learn about the impact of abuse on others, how to get help, and more.

- Banned Books Online This site explores how some of the world's greatest works of literature were threatened with censorship in and outside of the United States.
- National Coalition Against Censorship Founded in 1974, this organization is "united by a conviction that freedom of thought, inquiry, and expression must be defended..." (from the website)
- Office for Intellectual Freedom From the American Library Association, this office is dedicated to assist libraries with challenges to their collections. Contains valuable information about book censorship.

- Punishment and the Death Penalty From the University of San Diego, this site is a
selected list of Internet, video, audio, and print resources related to punishment in general and capital punishment in particular.
- Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics The Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics brings together data from more than 100 sources about all aspects of criminal justice in the United States, which are presented in over 600 tables.
Eating Disorders
- Eating Disorders Information Index From the National Eating Disorders Association, this index provides a variety of information about eating disorders, their symptoms, treatments, and their effects.

- Racism and Psychology Dr. Mark Feinberg wrote this document about why people "dislike, stereotype, and hate other groups" and gives ten ways to fight it.
- Tolerance.Org: For Teens: Mix It Up Tolerance.org is an online project of the Southern Poverty Law Center to combat bigotry and promote diversity. It also sponsors the Mix It Up at Lunch Day.
- Understanding Prejudice Provides over 200 links to resources relating to prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination.
