Here are websites relating to Earth and Enironmental Sciences including geology, meteorology, energy, and more.  They have been collected from book review journals, print resources, librarian/teacher recommendations, and other resources.

  • Earth 911  This nonprofit organization's focus is on the importance of recycling. There is also information on climate change, air quality, energy, and water.
  • Earth Portal   Here you can get current science-based information about the environment including topics such as biodiversity, energy, pollution, and globalization.
  • Envirofacts Data Warehouse  From the EPA, this site is full of environmental information. Enter your zip code and get information about hazardous waste, water purity, air pollution, and other environmental data in your area.
  • Green Web Guide   Gives suggestions on what you can do to make your home more "earth friendly."
  • Pollution   If you are writing a report on pollution, you should take a look at this site.  You'll find articles on emissions, recycling, marine pollution, global warming, waste management, and more.
  • Water on the Web   Provides information about water ecology, includes data on some lakes and rivers.

ORGANIZATIONS & GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES


 

  • Defenders of Wildlife   This organization works towards protecting native wildlife and their habitat.  On their site, you can learn about the various projects they are working on and the animals they are trying to protect including wolves, bears, and dolphins.
  • Environmental Protection Agency  The official site of the EPA is where you can find a variety of information on environmental concerns, current legislation, and educational resources.
  • World Wildlife Fund   The World Wildlife Fund is an international organization that protects endangered species and their habitats. Here you can find out information on those animals and where they live.

  • All About Glaciers   From the National Snow & Ice Data Center, this site explores glaciers.
  • Missouri Botanical Garden   This site has a lot of information on biomes including what they are, where they can be found, what plants and animals live there, and more.
  • Oceanography   Contains an extensive list of links from around the world relating to oceanography.
  • Sea and Sky   Here you can explore up in the sky the wonders of the universe and then explore the wonders of the deep.

  • U.S. Geological Survey  Providesinformation about geology including searchable databases of maps and geologic names, and earthquakes.
  • The Virtual Cave  Explore a variety of different kinds of caves and learn how they are formed.
  • Volcano Live   There are web cams of volcanoes around the world that you can look out. You can also find out where there are volcanoes erupting at this moment.
  • Volcano World    Information on volcanoes including current eruptions and some really neat images.

  • Storm Events Database   A database of storm data for states and counties from 1993 to date and more.
  • Weather.com   This is the official site of the weather channel where you can get local weather forecasts, (as well as international), weather advisories, watches, or warnings, and more.
  • Weather Underground  Find weather for any city, state, zip code or country. You can search for historical weather conditions by date.

  • BP: A+ for Energy   There's a lot of useful resources in the "Educational Resources" section.
  • Energy Information Administration   Provides "energy statistics from the U.S. government" including petroleum, natural gas, electricity, coal, renewable and alternative fuels, nuclear, and more.
  • Fuel Cell 2000   Provides information about fuel cells including what they are, how they work and their benefits.
