ICHS Salutes Outstanding Graduates
At the end of every school year, there is a certain degree of excitement in the air, mixed with an equal bit of sadness, as we bid our seniors farewell. Immaculate Conception High School held its senior awards dinner on May 15th where the class was honored for their academic performance. Leading the way are the achievements of the top four seniors from the Class of 2008.
Donald J. Abuy is the Valedictorian of the Class of 2008. He is a member of the National Honor Society, an Illinois State Scholar, and has received first honors all four years at ICHS. D.J. served as a Christian Service leader, Yearbook editor and was a member of the Pep Band, Varsity and Spanish clubs. He is a dedicated cross country and track athlete and leads both as a team captain. D.J. serves on the Student board of the Illinois Junior Academy of Science, spends time coaching at his grade school and as a volunteer at Elmhurst Hospital, Lifelink and other community events. This summer he will be serving as an intern in cancer research at Northwestern University Cancer Center. Donald will be attending Stanford University as a Pre-Med major.
Mark Tan is the Salutatorian of the Class of 2008. Mark is an Illinois State Scholar, a member of the National Honor Society and has received first honors all four years at ICHS. Mark has served on Student Council, as Yearbook editor, a Christian Service leader and Knight Ambassador. He is a member of the Spanish and Ecology clubs and has volunteered his time with many community organizations. Mark will be attending DePaul University – College of Commerce with a major of Information Assurance and Security Engineering.
Brendan Ryan is an Illinois State Scholar and a member and officer of the National Honor Society. Brendan has received first honors all four years at ICHS, while serving on Student Council, and as a Christian Service leader, Eucharistic Minister and Knight Ambassador. As a varsity athlete, he plays football and basketball and runs track. He was varsity captain of the bastketball team for two years. He has served as co-editor of the school newspaper and as a member of the Varsity and Drama clubs. His community service activities include work with the Evans Scholar Foundation and other worthy causes. Brendan will be attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign – College of Business.
Margaret Kowieski is an Illinois State Scholar, a member and officer of National Honor Society, co-president of Student Council Executive Board, and a four-year first honor roll recipient. She was our student columnist for the Catholic Explorer and co-editor of the school newspaper. Meg is a member of the Elmhurst peer jury, liturgical choir, Varsity and Chess clubs and serves as a Christian service leader and Knight Ambassador. She has played volleyball (captain), soccer and track and participated in the school musicals for four years. Her volunteer service includes tutoring, fundraising walks, and work at soup kitchens and food banks. Meg will be attending the University of Notre Dame, majoring in Graphic Design.
