IC Graduate Engaging in Cancer Research Project
Having just graduated with the Class of 2008, Immaculate Conception High School senior Donald “D.J.” Abuy has an interesting summer ahead of him. He will be performing research at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University in Chicago. The internship program is funded by the National Cancer Institute and D.J. will be working with Dr. Marilyn Lamm, a pediatric research assistant professor. Specifically, D.J. will be working with the sonic hedgehog gene that controls the development of prostate cancer cells. In addition to research, he will be attending weekly seminars on topics of importance to the cancer research project and preparing a presentation of his work at the conclusion of the internship.
D.J. is the valedictorian of his graduating class at IC and will be attending Stanford University in the fall to study premed.
