Here are websites relating to science, including astronomy, biology, chemistry, environmental science, physics, and science fair resources.  They have been collected from book review journals, print resources, librarian/teacher recommendations, and other resources.

  • The Constellations   Explore the 88 constellations in the night sky and their Greek myths.
  • Encyclopedia Astronautica   A detailed look at the history of rocketry and space flight not only in the U.S. but also around the world.
  • The Galileo Project   From Rice University, this site provides a detailed look at the life and work of Galileo Galilei including the Catholic Church's view of his work.
  • Hands-On Universe   Students can explore the universe here while using concepts from math, science and technology-related classes.
  • NASA   The official site of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.  There's A LOT of great information on here including shuttle launches, historical information, learning resources just for students and more.

General Biology

  • The Big Picture Book of Viruses  Here you see images of viruses as seen through an electron microscope or computer-assisted imaging. There are also additional resources listed.
  • Biology-Online  This is a valuable resource for biology students. It has a dictionary and tutorials that provide an overview of different aspects of biology.
  • The Biology Project   From the University of Arizona, contains information on biochemistry, cell biology, chemicals and human health, developmental biology, immunology, molecular biology, and much more.
  • Biozone: Biolinks   Contains biology related links on topics such as animal behavior, biodiversity, biotechnology, cell biology, conservation, ecology, genetics, microbiology, plant biology, and more.
  • Cell Biology   Developed by Dr. Gwen Childs at the University of Arkansas, this site explores  the world of the cell.
  • Cells Alive!   This site uses animated graphics to explain parts of a cell, mitosis, and more.
  • Classification of Living Things   Written by Dr. Dennis O'Neill from Palomar College, this site describes the formal classification systems of all living things.
  • DNA from the Beginning   Here you'll find information, graphics, animation, and many other things all about DNA, genes, and heredity.
  • Tree of Life Project   From the website:  " The Tree of Life Web Project (ToL) is a collaborative effort of biologists from around the world. On more than 5000 World Wide Web pages, the project provides information about the diversity of organisms on Earth, their evolutionary history (phylogeny), and characteristics.

  • Aqua Facts   This site is from the Vancouver Aquarium.  Here you can learn about a variety of marine life, how to become a marine biologist, and where to get more marine biology information.
  • Brookfield Zoo   The official site of the Brookfield Zoo and includes a field guide to the animals.
  • Field Museum  The official site of the Field Museum in Chicago, home of Sue the most complete T. Rex.
  • Lincoln Park Zoo  The official site of the Lincoln Park Zoo including animal fact sheets.
  • Shedd Aquarium  The official site of the John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.

Botany

  • Botany   The National Biological Information Infrastructure provides this detailed site about botany, (study of plants) including history, form and function, species, applied plant sciences, gardening, and more.
  • Botany.com   An encyclopedia of plants and flowers.
  • PLANTS Database  From the U.S. Department of Agriculture, this database provides information on a wide variety of plants,mosses, lichen, and more.

Animals

  • All About Birds    Here you'll find information about a variety of birds, bird watching, and how to attract birds.
  • Animal Names  A dictionary of animals and terms relating to animals.
  • Bugbios  Contains profiles of insects, discusses the role insects play in human culture, and related links.
  • Dinobase   From the Univerisity of Bristol, this site contains a lot of information about the dinosaurs.
  • eNature.com  Here there's a field guide with over 5500 species of plants and animals, a Native Gardening and Invasive Plants Guide, and more.
  • Fermilab Insect Database   This site contains a database of insects that can be found on the grounds of Fermilab.  There's a lot of interesting information here.
  • North American Mammals   The National Museum of Natural History maintains this database of all living mammals in North America.
  • 3D Insects  Get close to some common insects without getting close to them from Virginia Tech.

  • Chem 4 Kids   Don't let the title of this site fool you.  This is a great site about basic chemistry for everyone.
  • Elemental Data Index    From the NIST Physics Laboratory, this site provides information about each of the chemical elements.
  • General Chemistry Online   This site was developed by a chemistry professor at Frostburg State University in Maryland.  It contains a common compound library with over 800 compounds lists, a glossary, FAQ about chemistry, simulations, construction kits, and more.
  • High School Safety Web Pages    Provides tips on how to do labs safely including material safety data sheets, how to test odors, heating rods and test tubes, handling acids, and more.
  • Organic Chemistry Help! Contains tutorials, guides, laboratory guides, and practice tests to assist students with organic chemistry.
  • WebElements   This site provides detailed information about the elements in the Periodical Table.

  • Animated Engines    This simple site contains colorful animations that explain how 19 different engines work.
  • Fear of Physics   Ease your fear of physics with this great site. You'll find plenty of simple explanations of problems using graphics and animations.
  • How Stuff Works   Learn how a variety of things work from computers to smoke detectors.
  • Physics 2000    From the University of Colorado at Boulder, this site uses animated graphics to explain concepts of Physics.
  • Physics Classroom  This site was designed to help students with Physics.  There are tutorials as well as a Multimedia Physics Studio to help visualize concepts.
  • Physics On-Line   Provides links and resources about physics just for high school studnets.
  • Physics World  Here you can get the latest news in the physics field and articles from Physics World.
  • Physlets   There are over 100 applets here that animate different concepts of physics.
