SEARCH TOOLS
The sites listed below are a collection of search directories, search engines, and megasearch engines.
What are search tools?
There are three kinds of search tools. A search directory is a collection of sites that have been compiled and organized by people. The Librarians' Index to the Internet is a search directory that has been compiled by librarians in Califorinia. A search engine uses a computer program to collect websites. Probably the best know search engine is Google. A megasearch engine uses more than one search tool in its inquires. An example of a megasearch engine would be MetaCrawler. The best search tool depends on the person and their tastes. For a rating of search tools, you can visit Search Engine Watch.
How do you use a search tool?
Each search tool has its unique features. Don't be afraid to look at their help. Many provide some useful tips on how to do an effective search.
When searching be sure to use unique search terms. If your results are too limited, broaden your search terms. If you need help, please see Mr. Andrusyk.
Before using any Internet resource, it is important that you evaluate it. Click here for more information about evaluating websites.
