What is the demographic make-up of ICHS?

89% of the student body is Catholic.
ICHS enrollment includes a 26% minority population.
ICHS accepts students from over 35 different communities – including Addison, Bartlett, Bensenville, Berkeley, Berwyn, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Chicago, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Hillside, Medinah,  Melrose Park,  Northlake, Roselle, Villa Park, Westchester, Willow Springs, and Wood Dale.

Is transportation available?

ICHS provides morning and afternoon transportation for its students. Bus schedules are developed using registered student addresses and may vary from year to year. Cost is dependant upon the pick up/drop off locations and the number of registered students. Bus schedules are sent out one week prior to the start of the school year.

Elmhurst is served by the Metra Union Pacific West Line with stops in Oak Park, River Forest, Maywood, Melrose Park, Bellwood, Lombard, Glen Ellyn and Wheaton. The Elmhurst Metra station is located three blocks from ICHS. Discounted student fares are available. For more information, see www.metrarail.com

Pace Bus provides service from many locations to ICHS. Their Student Haul Pass program provides discounted fares for high school students. For more information, visit their website at www.pacebus.com.

What types of faith opportunities are offered to students at ICHS?

Christian service, spiritual programs such as retreats, liturgies, mission support, Eucharistic ministers, liturgical choir. We offer opportunities to interact with religious programs within our parish (Youth Ministry) and with our pastor and parish priests. Students attend Mass once per month; prayer services, reconciliation services, academic services and retreats are included throughout the year.

What academic opportunities do you offer top-level students?

We offer Honors and Advanced Placement courses. Our Senior Option Program with Elmhurst College enables advanced students to take college level courses at no extra cost.

What do you offer in technology?

We offer computer applications emphasizing Microsoft Office. Intro to Programming – QuickBasic, Excel, Word and PowerPoint and Word are some of the applications we teach.

SMART Boards are an innovative technology that are installed in all classrooms.  Combining the simplicity of a whiteboard with the power of a computer, the SMART Board interactive whiteboard engages students in active learning.  Studies on technology in education demonstrate that the SMART Board interactive whiteboard can improve student engagement and retention, increase student motivation and success, and support different learning styles.

If my child is not an athlete, will he/she fit in?

ICHS offers the opportunity for students to be involved in various extracurricular activities: Christian Service, Eucharistic Ministers, Retreats, Student Council, National Honor Society, Newspaper, Yearbook, Choir, Ecology Club, Math Club, Business Club, Italian Club, Spanish Club, Knights of the Round Table Spirit Club, Drama and much more.

What types of service opportunities are offered to students at ICHS?

Numerous opportunities are offered through our National Honor Society, Varsity Club, Student Council, Christian Service Leaders and Sr. High Youth Ministry.

How is IC the right size for my son or daughter?

Research shows that smaller schools deliver better academic results. In this environment, students receive individualized attention to meet their specific needs.

What plans do you have for the future? Where will the school be in five years?

Our 5 year plan includes increasing program opportunities in academics, athletics and extracurricular; improving facilities including the science labs, the fields and field house, media services/resource center and technology infrastructure; providing access to technology across the curriculum; and to successfully execute a campaign to fund the vision and priorities.

What if I’m not sure we can afford tuition?

We work with our families to insure that they can attend ICHS. Scholarship funds (Math Contest and Placement Test) are made available through the fund-raising efforts of our alumni.  Over 40% of our current families are receiving some type of tuition assistance. All families are given the opportunity to apply for tuition assistance and for privately funded scholarships through the high school. All families who reside in the Diocese of Joliet are eligible to apply for tuition assistance through the Diocese of Joliet Catholic Education Foundation Tuition Assistance Program.
