Shadow Days

What is a Shadow Day?

A shadow day provides the opportunity to spend a day shadowing an IC student and get a sneak preview of life as an IC Knight. You will participate in all activities that day, including classroom discussion, assemblies and lunch.

You will receive a lunch coupon, but you may bring your own lunch if you prefer.

Who can I shadow?

You will be paired with an IC freshman and will attend classes and activities as if you were an IC student. If you know a student that you would like to shadow, please inform us of that person when you make an appointment. While we cannot guarantee that you will be able to shadow a particular student, we will make every attempt to place you with a student whom you will be comfortable with. If you do not know anyone at IC, you will be paired with one of our Knight Ambassador students.

What time should I arrive at IC, and where should I go?

Your day begins at 7:45 a.m. and ends at 2:50 p.m. You should check in at the Main Office located inside the front entrance to the school located on Cottage Hill Avenue. At the end of the day, you will also be picked up at the Main Office.

What should I wear?

IC students maintain a uniform dress code. We ask shadows to adhere to our code and dress in appropriate school attire.

  • Collared shirt or blouse. An appropriate sweater may be worn.
  • Dress pants or appropriate length dress or skirt.
  • Dress shoes (low heels)
  • Blue jeans, t-shirts and gym shoes are not permitted.

How do I schedule a Shadow Day?

Check to see if your grade school has a scheduled eighth grade shadow day. If not, you can join us on any regular school day.  Please call a minimum of three full days in advance to schedule your visit.  It is never too soon to call as certain dates fill up fast.  Just give us a call at (630) 530-3484. You will be asked to complete the Shadow Day form and bring it on the day of your visit.

Entrance Exam

Saturday, January 9, 2010
8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon

The entrance exam is an important tool used to determine each student’s aptitude and placement. Taking Immaculate Conception's entrance exam is the first step in the application process.  While exam reservations are not necessary, we ask that you bring a completed Incoming Freshmen Enrollment Application with you on the day of the test.

Eighth grade students should arrive at ICHS before 8:00 a.m. with two #2 pencils and $30 for the exam fee (cash or check payable to ICHS).  The use of calculators and dictionaries is prohibited.

On the day of the exam, students will receive a packet of information that includes materials necessary for application to ICHS.  Every student taking our entrance examination will receive a financial aid application which must be submitted by March 1, 2010.

ICHS uses the HSPT test distributed through Scholastic Testing Services.  The test measures a student's skill level in the following areas:  verbal, quantitative, reading, mathematics, and language.

Entrance Exam Workshop

The workshop will offer test taking techniques and strategies. Examples of test questions will be reviewed.  This session lasts approximately one hour.  The entrance exam fee is $30 and will cover the workshop and entrance exam.  Workshop attendance is strongly encouraged.

Thursday, January 7, 2010
7:00 to 8:15 p.m.

Entrance Exam Make-up Date

ICHS may schedule a make-up placement exam if needed.  It would be open to all 8th grade students who have not yet taken a high school placement exam.  Pre-registration is required and there is a $30 fee.  Please bring two #2 pencils.  No calculators or dictionaries allowed.
